Burkina Faso

Carl and I went shopping at the new Westside Market on 97th and Broadway after dinner tonight. We asked a man who was organizing the produce a question about the price of the pears. When he answered, I recognized the French is his speech. Carl recognized him as someone from Burkina Faso by the marks on his face. A conversation ensued. He has been in NY for four years, first arriving in Philadelphia. All of his family is still in Burkina Faso. It was a lovely connection with another person. Even grocery shopping in NYC is a memorable experience when we are open to it.
